Update: Helping Students in the Midst of COVID-19

Thanks to your support, we have been able to respond to the immediate needs of our students and keep our programs running as usual. Thank you!

Please see below for an update from the front lines:

>> We received a grant from the Heckscher Foundation for Children to provide 144 Chromebooks for our students without school-issued devices. Caring people in our community have also been sending us donated devices. Dozens of students now have the technology to learn efficiently.

>> Missing out on the traditional senior year celebrations, we want to recognize our graduates via a virtual graduation ceremony. All are invited to submit congratulatory messages and to tune in on Saturday, June 13 at 6 PM.

>> We're preparing for the upcoming school year – whatever it may look like. That means virtual summer orientation and programming for students, as well as a mass call for mentors for our incoming freshmen.

>> To ensure our mentors also feel supported at this uncertain time, we launched Virtual Mentor Trainings and provide weekly tips and resources to ensure mentors have everything they need to be there for our students.

>> We've been engaging with our students on social media even more, and we encourage you to check out these weekly highlights. Every Monday, our on-staff social worker shares mental wellness tips in our Instagram Story, and we get input on different topics from our students every Thursday.

>> Our team is connecting students with virtual tutors and educational tools to support distance learning. This will continue as students need support with summer classes or extra help for courses completed.

>> Our staff has been responding to other emergent needs of students and families by providing references to fellow social service agencies and support via our Hardship Fund. We've also provided resource toolkits for families.
