Corporate Partners Share Insights with Students

Many SSP students are first in their families to attend college, and as we provide them new experiences and opportunities, many turn to professions that aren't that common in their family or among those they've known in their early lives. That's why we offer so many programs that focus on college and career success.

A vital part of that effort is exposing students to various career paths, opportunities, and professionals who can share insights into career planning. Through regular events with corporate partners, we are able to bring students together with people who can share insights into particular careers and the process of planning for a successful future more generally. This spring, we've hosted a number of corporate events that have given students a chance to learn about professional opportunities. This spring, we've partnered with a number of corporate partners to give students guidance for their professional, college, and life endeavors.

Equitable

On May 5, mentors from Equitable invited mentees from All Hallows High School to spend part of the day in their midtown office, seeing their work space, connect with one another, and engage in a service project to help more NYC youth. In addition to being a great opportunity for mentees to connect with their mentors in person, the group packed kits with basic hygiene materials (dental care, soap/lotion, shampoo, washcloths, etc.) for individuals experiencing homelessness, veterans, and clients living in transitional housing.

Bloomberg

On May 10, SSP alumnus Mike Daley hosted a group of juniors and seniors for a tour of the Bloomberg offices on Lex Ave before hearing from a diverse panel of mentors and colleagues. The professionals shared insights about their career paths and gave advice to the SSP students about exploring opportunities, networking, and learning from experience.

Deloitte

On June 9, colleagues from Deloitte joined SSP juniors, seniors, and recent graduates as part of Deloitte Impact Day. Coming from various backgrounds to their current roles at Deloitte, two colleagues from our partner presented on what a career in accounting looks like and what the process for young people, from entering college to the first years, could look like. They also fielded a slew of questions ranging from college admissions, career planning, what types of careers Deloitte has to offer, how to connect with such an esteemed accounting firm early on, and what a life with an accounting career could look like.
