Celebrating Our Newest Peter M. Flanigan Scholars

Every year, we invite juniors who have demonstrated academic excellence to apply for our Peter M. Flanigan Scholarship. This honor affords select students the opportunity to receive up to $10,000 in funds toward college tuition and a network of support. This year, we selected four Flanigan Scholars. Meet them below!

Sean Cabrera, Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School

Intended Major: Forensic Science; undecided

“I am a 16 year old Hispanic junior at Monsignor McClancy High School who likes taekwondo, reading, and swimming. I am honored to be one of the students to have won the Peter M. Flanigan Scholarship. I am extremely grateful for this scholarship because of the opportunities it can give me. It could open up more possible scholarships and help me in my quest to defy the horrible stereotypes and misconceptions of Hispanic people. I look forward to exploring my educational options with the help of my mentor and Student Sponsor Partners.”

Christopher Flores, All Hallows High School

Intended Major: Biology, Pre-Med

“I attended All Hallows High School in 2020 to continue my brother's legacy. Recently, I found myself wanting to pursue a career in the medical field as a pediatrician. When I was 6, my father passed away, which inspired me to pursue my career. I had many interests in my life, such as photography, acting, and traveling. When I get to college, I want to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor. Hopefully, I can get into NYU or Columbia University to major in Biology and Pre-Med. In my senior year, I’m looking forward to having fun outdoor trips and having a fun year.”

Michelle Lucero, St. Jean Baptiste High School

Intended Major: Business or Economics

“SSP has given me such an amazing opportunity to pursue a higher education and has allowed me to prepare for college through SAT, interview, and essay prep. Senior year I am looking forward to becoming a part of the executive board, being involved in school spirit events, and overall enjoying my last year of high school with friends and finding ways to make positive impacts. Hopefully, in the fall of 2024, I’ll attend a 4-year college majoring either in business or economics. I also plan on getting my real estate license by the beginning of my freshman year in college and start gaining experience in the field of real estate. In the future, I hope to own my own real estate company and work on social media. One of the most important goals in my life is to provide assistance and give back to my community for all the support they have given me. Thank you so much to SSP for awarding me the Flanagan Scholarship and continuing to believe in my future.”

Megan Spencer, Preston High School

Intended Major: Pre-Med

"At Student Sponsor Partners, I have learned that having solid relationships in life is the cornerstone to success and living a fulfilled life through the relationships I have built inside and outside of SSP. Building relationships with various people broadens your horizons and allows you to develop more empathetic understandings when you encounter new experiences. For my senior year of high school, I look forward to closing one chapter of my life and opening the next. When I attend college, I hope to go to a school that will award me with an education that will help me discover new things and give me a firm foundation to be a doctor. Thank you for reading and I look forward to immersing myself in the SSP/ Peter M. Flanigan Scholar community!"
