NEW YORK, NY (June 6, 2024) — Student Sponsor Partners (SSP), a nonprofit focused on educating underserved New York City students and supporting them through a comprehensive mentorship program, celebrated its 25th Silver Anniversary Founder’s Dinner at Gotham Hall on Thursday, June 6. The event raised $3.5M to impact low-income students across the city. This year’s dinner featured powerful stories of resilience, celebration, gratitude, and the recognition of the extraordinary "silver linings" that have graced our journey.
The gala honored William D. Anderson, Jr., Senior Managing Director, Evercore & Member, SSP Board of Directors, for his steadfast advocacy of SSP and its students for more than two decades. Anderson has sponsored the college-preparatory high school education of more than 20 students while also serving as a devoted mentor. “Think about your children, and their education or consider how your parents spent every effort to ensure you had every opportunity to succeed. Don’t those memories conjure up the warmest of feelings? Those feelings are what I want you to leave with tonight. Because of the funds we raised, we will have a substantial, concrete, positive and lasting impact on the lives of so many,” Anderson said.
The night’s celebration featured a speech from Justin Tuck, Managing Director, Goldman Sachs & former New York Giant, who shared his connections to the important work of providing opportunities to support, guide, and inspire young people. “Think about the kid that needs someone to help them get up. That’s why I’m here. The only thing I can do tonight is leave a legacy that hopefully provides someone out there with a similar helping hand that somebody did for me. What you can do is pay it forward. Give until it hurts – your time, expertise, there’s a lot of ways to give back,” Tuck said.
The evening was hosted by John Stossel, SSP Mentor, Sponsor, Board Member and Founder of Stossel TV. Nicole Sales Giles of Christie’s New York led an auction to raise more than $215,000 in the room that night.
