Kicking off her high school experience at St. Jean Baptiste this fall, Vanessa is looking forward to participating in sports and extracurriculars as well as meeting her new classmates.
Prior to the pandemic, she played softball and soccer and she can’t wait to start again. Vanessa enjoys painting and hopes to find a future career with the opportunity to work with children, possibly within a hospital setting.
In middle school, Vanessa learned three lessons: “believe in yourself, stay on top of your work, and ask for help.” When asked how she will translate these lessons into goals for high school, Vanessa responded, “I will continue to advocate for myself and go outside of my comfort zone. If I need help, I will continue to ask for guidance . . . I will stay on top of my stuff and my work . . .”
Mentorship is an aspect of SSP that Vanessa is particularly excited to start. She says, “I want to meet with my mentor, I want to build a connection with her.” Vanessa is no stranger to mentorship in her personal life. Her biggest role models are her grandma and her mother. “My grandma because she shows me that I am powerful and always makes me comfortable. My mom always believes in me and helps me when I need it. She shows me I can do anything that I want if I stay true to myself.”
We cannot wait to help support our incoming class and watch them grow!
