To celebrate International Day of the Girl, we hosted a Girl Powered event through the REC Foundation and presented by Google. About 20 freshman and sophomores from a variety of our partnered schools came together to learn more about STEM and robotics opportunities. Students partook in a fun STEM activity, the Marshmallow Challenge, and there was also a keynote speaker to talk about her journey moving to New York from India and now working as a Technical Account Manager at Google while continuing to give back to her community in India.
Deborah Cavalcante, from the REC Foundation, joined us during the workshop, while Shraddha Lohkande, was our inspirational speaker.
About Google Girl Powered Workshops: Girl Powered Workshops are virtual or in-person events hosted by a community with a goal to engage and inform young women about STEM and robotics opportunities available to them. This initiative is intended to bring all students who are interested together, to show them that they are welcome in the robotics community. Google believes in the power of diverse creative teams, and wants to make sure our programs attract as many students interested in STEM as possible. They want to create and engage communities of support for inclusive environments to break down societal obstacles, and provide opportunities for everyone to decide if robotics and STEM is right for them.
